Volvo Launches New Plant in Kaluga Automotive Cluster

An official opening ceremony of the first Volvo excavator plant in Russia was held on May 14, 2013 in Kaluga-Yug industrial park. The ceremony was attended by Anatoly Artamonov, Kaluga Region Governor, Patrick Olney, President, Volvo Construction Equipment, Lars Corneliusson, President and CEO, Ferronordick Machines OOO.

The production facility has been built at a 15-ha site and has an area of 20,660 m2. Over  SEK 350 million (US $54 million) was invested in the project. About 300 new jobs are to be created.  The new production facility is to manufacture new D series (EC220, EC250, EC300, EC380 and EC480) 20- - 50-t heavy duty Volvo excavators. The plant was built with the extensive use of new technologies to reduce CO2 emissions. There is the sixteenth VOLVO CE plant in the world and the seventh excavator  production facility.

Patrick Olney said: "We constantly develop new products to secure leading positions in the global construction equipment market and other markets. We stick to the highest Volvo standards. We localize both management and production processes.  Opening this new plant in Kaluga we hope to benefit from the growing demand for high-quality construction machinery.  <…> Naturally, we are interested in cooperation with local suppliers. It is important for us to be close to our market".
